There can be no reservation based on religion: Yadav clarifies after facing opposition
Patna / Delhi – Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday said Muslims should get reservation ‘in full’ and people should understand that PM Modi wants to destroy the Constitution and democracy, evoking a sharp reaction from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who asserted that it only means INDI alliance wants to snatch quota of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes for giving it to Muslims. When Lalu Prasad Yadav’s statement started facing opposition, he completely changed his statement. Hours later, Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav clarified that he was in favour of extending reservation benefits to Muslims based on social backwardness and not based on religion. He also claimed that he implemented the recommendations of the Mandal Commission.
“This word, ‘full reservation’, used by him in his statement, is severe. This makes it clear that they (INDI alliance) want to provide reservation to Muslims from the share of SCs, STs and OBCs,” BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi told a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
