Foreign tourists dressed in skimpy clothes on the banks of River Ganga in Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) turn it into a party place

Draw ire on social media

Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) – A video on the banks of River Ganga here has gone viral on social media, in which some foreign tourists are seen bathing in the River Ganga in a semi-naked state. In this video, many foreigner women are wearing bikinis and many children are in shorts. This has drawn criticism on social media where some said, “These people are having fun on the banks of the River Ganga as if they were on the beach of Goa.”

Reactions of some individuals on social media

1. Thank you Pushkar Singh Dhami for turning Pavitra Ganga into Goa Beach. Such things are now happening in Rishikesh & soon it will become Mini Bangkok (a city in Thailand).

2. Rishikesh is no more a city of religion, spirituality & yoga. It has become Goa.

3. Why such rave parties/zombie culture is being promoted in Rishikesh ? Is this what Devbhoomi is known for ? Something needs to be done before they ruin this holy city.

4. Foreigners come to India to see the lifestyle and culture of its people; then they should act like here.

5. When foreign tourists come, we have to compromise to some extent.

6. Such things should not be tolerated in a religious city.

Editorial Perspective

Don’t the Police and local authorities sensitise foreign tourists about preserving the sanctity of River Ganga and Rishikesh ? Such tourists should be dealt with an iron hand; only then will it serve as a lesson for others.
