Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, more than 41,000 girls have gone missing in the state of Gujarat between 2016 and 2020. The data shows as below –

Thus based on this the total number is about 41,621. The number of minor girls is not included in this data.
95% of the missing women traced by the Gujarat Police
published by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), New Delhi, 39,497 (94.90%) of the missing women have been traced by Gujarat Police and they are united with their families. The said information is also part of Crime in India, 2020.

In a tweet, the Gujarat Police debunked malicious reports and social media posts that said over 40,000 women have been missing in Gujarat during the period 2016-20. The law enforcement agency said that out of the 41,621 women who had gone missing, 39,497 or approximately 95% of the women were traced by the Gujarat Police and reunited with their families.

It is now essential to declare the rise in the cases of missing girls and women as a national crisis. The Centre and State Governments should attempt to stop it on a war footing. |
