We have no objection if Govt wants to grant minority status to Hindus in J&K : NCM

Hindus in J & K

Srinagar (J&K) – The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has no problem if the Union Government wants to grant minority status to Hindus, including Kashmiri Pandits, in Jammu and Kashmir, its member Syed Shahezadi said on Monday.

  1. Syed said that if the Parliament wants to legally declare Hindus as minority, it is their right.
  2. The Commission does not have the right to decide why a particular group should be declared as a minority. When the Home Minister asked our opinion on this, we gave the same response. The Parliament should make a law for this and the Supreme Court should give its decision on it. The Home Ministry and Commission have discussed this and have concluded that a law should be made.
  3. We are going to write a letter to the Union Government and some States demanding the formation of the State Minority Commission in Union Territories. It is our approach to form a Commission in each State.
