Union Govt to sell enemy properties in the country worth a trillion rupees !

New Delhi – The process for the eviction and sale of enemy properties in this country, worth a trillion rupees, has been started by the Union Government. Most of these properties are in Uttar Pradesh. The Union Government has earned Rs. 3,400 crore from the auction of such properties so far which were in the form of movable assets like shares and gold. The total number of properties in Uttar Pradesh is 6,255 which is more than half of the total properties; followed by Bengal with 4,088, Delhi with 659, Goa having 259, Maharashtra with 208, Telangana with 158, Gujarat 151, Tripura with 105, Bihar 94, Madhya Pradesh 94, Chhattisgarh 78, and Haryana 71.

What is enemies’ property ?

After India’s Independence, the properties owned by the people and entities who took citizenship of Pakistan or China have been declared as enemy properties by India. The Indian Government issued the first notification on the subject, on the 10th of September 1959, and another notification on the 18th of December 1971. Such property is auctioned by the Union Government. As per the statistics published by the Union Government, presently, there are 12,611 establishments identified as enemy properties in India, which are worth one trillion rupees. These properties are, presently, under the control of ‘The Custodian of Enemy Property for India’.
