Cut practice refers to commission given by one doctor or hospital to another for referring a patient for investigations such as MRI, CT scans and X rays.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) – In the year 2019 a draft of legislation about ‘The Maharashtra Prevention of Cut Practices Act’ was presented to the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. It had recommended that a ‘cabinet sub-committee be established’ but because of the transfer of power, no further action was taken to implement the law. But now the Government is going to establish a cabinet sub-committee to implement the law, informed an officer to the Dainik Sanatan Prabhat.
1. During the two-and-a-half rule of the Mahavikas Aghadi, no action was taken to implement the ‘The Maharashtra Prevention of Cut Practices Act’.
2. When Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Minister, on 28th July 2017 under the Chairmanship of retired Police Commissioner Pravin Dixit a committee of 8 members was made to prepare a draft of law against the ‘Cut practice’. This committee included experts from the medical field. This committee presented the draft of the law against the ‘Cut practice’ to the Government, but the law has not been implemented till now. Minister of Medical Education Girish Mahajan recently made a statement that it is necessary to stop the ‘Cut practice’ and that the Government is actively trying to implement it. It means that in the near future, there is a possibility that the law will be enforced. Under this law, offenders will be liable to pay fine up to Rs 50,000 and face imprisonment up to five years, or both.
