Washington (USA) – The University of North Carolina updated its weapons on campus policy to allow Sikh students to wear a Kirpan (small dagger) on campus. Two months ago, a Sikh student was arrested in the North Carolina University campus for wearing a ceremonial dagger and denied removing it. Now the University has revised the policy to allow it.

1. Chancellor Sharon L Gaber and Chief Diversity Officer Brandon L Wolfe apologised for the arrest of the student wearing Kirpan. The new policy has been implemented with immediate effect.
2. Guru Govind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs had made 5 things mandatory for the Sikhs which include Kesh (uncut hair), Kada (a steel bracelet), Kirpan (steel sword/dagger), Kachera (underwear) and Kanga (wooden comb).
