Notice to Centre on plea for law to control population explosion

Claiming population explosion to be the cause for increasing crimes

New Delhi – Population explosion is the basic cause for thefts, robbery, domestic violence, harassment of women, separatism, fanaticism, stone pelting, etc. Yet the Centre is not taking any constructive measure in this regard, claimed the petitioner filing a PIL in the Court. Taking cognisance of the PIL, the Court has issued a notice to the Centre on 8th August. Adv Ashutosh Dube has field this PIL on behalf of Dharmaguru Devkinandan Thakur.

Important points mentioned in the petition

1. There is a need to pass a law to control the population in the nation. Water, food, health and the right to employment should be delivered. Hence such laws need to be passed in earnest.

2. The Government had made an announcement, ‘Hum do, hamare do’. According to a survey, nearly 80% of criminals involved in thefts, robberies and rapes are from families which have not abided by ‘Hum do, hamare do’.

3. Appeal has been made in the PIL stating giving direction to the Law Commission to study the population control Acts and respective strategies in developed countries; so also suggesting remedies with respect to population control for protecting all citizens’ basic rights.

Division Bench comprising Justice S Abdul Nazir and Justice JK Maheshwari has taken serious note of the petition with serving a notice to the Centre to defend its side.

Editorial viewpoint

India will soon surpass China in population; hence patriots feel that ‘Uniform Civil Law’ and ‘Population Control Act’ should be passed in earnest.
