Incessant disrespect of India’s Map and National flag by Amazon
Editorial comment
Why does this need to be told ? Police, Administration and the Government are expected to take action against the culprits. |
Mumbai – National flag and the Map of India are the pride of millions of Indians. Flag code explains all the rules concerning the use of the National flag. Its violation is a crime; so also the distortion of the Indian Map is a crime. Despite this, while violating the Flag code ‘Amazon’ continues the sale of T-shirts, shoes, etc. with India’s Map printed on them, so also that of distorted ‘Vinyl stickers’ of India’s Maps /on its website. Despite conveying many times earlier about this to ‘Amazon’, it has continued its sale without making any changes.

This kind of incessant audacity on the part of ‘Amazon’ causing disrespect to the National Symbols needs to be stopped now. ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) gave a call to the Central Home Minister Amit Shah making a demand that we need to boycott Amazon so long as it does not publicly apologise to the Indian Government and Indians. A memorandum has been sent recently to the Home Minister in this regard.
In the memorandum, it is said,
1. This is not the first time that Amazon has sold ‘Vinyl stickers’ having Indian Map excluding Pakistan occupied and China occupied Kashmir on it, so also T-shirts and shoes with National Flag along with Ashok Chakra printed on them. Earlier also Amazon has disrespected the National Flag by selling its products, ‘Tricolour mask’, ‘Tricolour cap’, etc. Some days ago, Amazon had been accused of selling cannabis. On behalf of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’, the HJS had complained in this regard with the Central Government.
2. According to the 2nd and 5th section of the 1950 Law referring to ‘Stopping the misuse of National Emblems/Logos, and 2nd section of Prevention of Insult to Nationality Act 1971 and Prevention of improper use 1950 concerning Bodhchinha and Name, all three are punishable crimes as per these 3 laws. Therefore, the Government should take stringent action against Amazon. If the Government fails to act in this case then the misconception that ‘Indian laws being useless’ may be created and as a result, anybody would dare to insult the National Flag and Map. With a view to avoid this, an appeal on behalf of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ has been made to the Indian Government to take notice of this serious matter.
