Guwahati (Assam) – “If someone snatches the Police’s arms (weapon) and tries to flee, and on top of that, he is a rapist, the Police cannot shoot him in the chest, but shooting at the leg is law,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma in a meeting with the Police. ‘We want to make the Police squad the best’, he added.
Chief Minister Sarma said, ‘Some people told me that now-a-days criminals are fleeing from the clutches of the Police and skirmish incidents are rampant. Is it becoming a pattern in the state? I replied that (shooting) should be the pattern if it involves a criminal trying to escape Police custody’.

Speaking on cattle smuggling in the State, the Chief Minister said, “Cow is God. It is because of cattle that we could cultivate before tractors came. Crime against cattle through its smuggling should not at all take place in the State. In regards to cattle smuggling, the issue should not go to chargesheet, that means it should not at all take place in the State anywhere. Spare none,” he added.
