Male (Maldives) – Maldivian Police have arrested their own country’s Environment Minister. Her name is Fatimath Shamnaz Ali Salim and 2 others have been arrested along with her. Fatimath is accused of practising black magic on President Mohammed Muizzu. She wanted to use this magic to control Muizzu.
Witchcraft is not a criminal offence under the Maldivian Penal Code; but according to Islamic law, the punishment is 6 months imprisonment. Traditional ceremonies, believed to bring good fortune or harm to opponents, are believed to be widely practised across the island nation.
