The ‘G7’ conference was recently held in Apulia, southern Italy. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the conference on the special invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The project was announced by Prime Minister Modi at the G-20 summit held in New Delhi in September 2023.
What is the ‘IMEC Corridor’ ?‘IMEC Corridor’ means India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. Through this project, Western Asia and Europe will be connected to India through railways and ports. The project involves India along with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, France, Italy, Germany and the US. The project is seen as a boost to China’s notorious ‘Belt and Road Initiative’, as well as the ‘China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’. Interestingly, Italy’s withdrawal from the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ last year was said to be a shock to China. |
