Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the district administration to provide security to the family
Morigaon (Assam) – In the Laharighat area, a Muslim-dominated village, Muslims harassed a lone Hindu family to evict them and grab their ancestral land. The family was threatened to be killed if they fail to leave and their house was set on fire. Raji Ravidas is the head of the family and this family has been living here for the past 100 years. It is during the British era, his family migrated from Bihar to Assam. Earlier there were hundreds of Hindu families in this area but everyone had to flee due to the threats received from the Islamists. Now only 16 Hindu families are left in the area.

Raju Ravidas owns 1-acre land here. Raju`s neighbour Abdul Jalil has been eyeing his property. Abdul`s family of 25 members have been threatening and beating up Raju Ravidas`s family members. They have threatened Raju to leave the house. When the Ravidas family was away from the house to attend a wedding, their house was burnt by religious fanatics. When the incident was published in the local newspaper, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered the district administration to provide security to the family.
