Colombo (Sri Lanka) – On 9th May, brutal violence took place at night in Sri Lanka after the resignation of PM Mahinda Rajapaksha. The agitators burnt the ancestral house of Rajapaksha in Hambantota. The houses of some ministers were vandalised and burnt. In this violence, an MP along with 5 others lost their lives. The violence is going on between the supporters and opponents of Rajapaksha. A curfew has been imposed in all the cities in Sri Lanka. The Police are using tear gas and force to stop the violence, but the situation has gone out of control and the number of agitators is increasing. In this violence in Colombo, 138 people have been injured. They have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

Amarkeerthi Athukorala, the MP of the ruling party, fired at the opponents of the Government and then shot himself dead. The Police said that Amarkeerthi fired at two people who tried to stop his car at Nittambuwa. One of them was shot dead. After this, to avoid the fury of the people, he tried to hide in a nearby apartment; but the people surrounded his apartment. Seeing this, the MP shot himself dead.
