New Delhi – Twitter has agreed at Delhi High Court that they had not yet complied with the Center’s new Information Technology rules. The Court clarified that Twitter had lost its immunity due to it. Government is free to take action against Twitter. Advocate Amit Acharya had filed an affidavit in the Court that stated, after the new IT rules were in effect Twitter failed to appoint a Resident Grievance Officer. The Court gave the above decision at the hearing. The Court has directed Twitter to inform by July 8th as to when it will appoint a Resident Grievance Officer. Twitter needs to inform the Court who has been appointed for the position.
Twitter had previously received three months to implement the new Information Technology rules, but they did not comply. They had sought an extension for two more weeks. Twitter’s attorney informed that their established headquarters are in the US, hence, the delay. In response, the Court rebuked and asked them to prepare themselves; else they would be in trouble. The Court asked, ‘How much time does it to appoint a new grievance office ! Twitter thinks it can take as long as it wants in our country; we cannot allow it’.
