New York (US) – The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has recently stated that the ‘attacks on Sikhs have tarnished the country’s image’. Adams further said that the Sikh turban is not a symbol of terrorism it is a symbol of faith. The meaning of the turban is that we come together as a family, a community, a city. The Sikh community should be protected and there is a need to be aware of Sikhism. Speaking at an event organised by Sikhs, Adams added, “You are not a terrorist but a protector. The whole city must be made aware of this, as the number of attacks on Sikhs in the city has increased at an alarming rate. On 15th October, a 19-year-old Sikh boy was attacked while going to a Gurdwara in the city’s Richmond Hill. A few days ago, 66-year-old Jasmer Singh’s four-wheeler hit a two-wheeler. He died when receiving treatment for this accident in the hospital.
