Offering pinda in pitrupaksha is a medium of repaying the debt unto ancestors. So that the onward journey of your near and dear ones is pleasant and free of conflict and so that they attain a good status after death, the rite of shraddha is performed.

There are several types of Ganapati idols like the Saumyaganapati, Balganapati, Herambganapati, Lakshmiganapati, Haridraganapati, Uchchishtaganapati, Suryaganapati, Varadganapati, Dvibhujganapati, Dashbhujganapati, Nartanganapati, Uttishthitganapati, Ganapati with the trunk curved towards the right, etc.
Each Deity is a specific Principle. Greater the similarity of the Deity’s two-dimensional form (a picture) or three-dimensional form (an Idol) with the Deity’s original form, higher will be its ability to attract the Deity’s Principle.
