Summer is in full flow. During this period, body temperature rises, there is sweating, feeling of weakness, etc. There are also some instances of people falling unconscious (due to heat stroke) and dying due to the rise in temperature. Everyone needs to take the precautions mentioned ahead to stay away from various summer-related ailments.

1. Drink as much water or water-based drinks as required throughout the day without waiting to feel thirsty. If your urine is dark in colour, understand that body demands more water. Avoid drinking refrigerated water. Drink a glass of water before leaving the house in the morning. You can carry your own water bottle while going out.

2. Drink water slowly and in smaller gulps. Upon coming home after exposure to sun, sit quietly for 5 to 10 minutes and then drink water.

3. Can drink sugary drinks; however, since drinks with added sugar are difficult to digest, avoid them as much as possible. If possible, include buttermilk or panhe (a drink made by boiling raw mango) in the daily diet.

4. Avoid eating outside food.

5. Wear loose, light coloured and light weight (cotton if possible) clothes.

6. During these days, as there is a lot of sweating, fatigue is also quick. Hence, reduce the extent of exercise.

7. Stay indoors or in a shady place during hot weather.

8. If there is a cooler (air cooling device) facility to keep the environment cool, use it for a few hours a day.

9. Leave the house preferably before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. Wear goggles while going out to avoid sunburn. Use an umbrella or a cap that covers head from all sides. If a cap is not available, tie a large white handkerchief around the head and ears.

10. Some individuals have to go out or travel for propagation of Spirituality or for other reasons. Men should keep an onions in their pockets and women in their purses to avoid suffering from heat. Since onion absorbs heat from the body, it becomes dry after 3-4 days. Discard the dry onion and replace it with fresh one.

11. Late nights increases pitta and vata doshas in the body. Therefore, avoid excessive late nights. (This care should be taken in all seasons.)
Babies below 1 year, as well as individuals above 65 years of age need to take special care as mentioned above.’
