Decision taken at bilateral meeting between India and Canada

Kananaskis (Canada) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the guest of honour at the G-7 (Group of 7 developed countries – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the US) summit held here on June 17. This was followed by a bilateral meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Prime Minister Modi. During this meeting, an agreement was reached to re-appoint High Commissioners between India and Canada. In October last year, both countries had expelled six diplomats each after the killing of Khalistani terrorist Nijjar.
After the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said that the relationship between India and Canada is very important. I am grateful to you (Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney) for inviting India to the G-7 summit. I am fortunate that I got the opportunity to come to Canada once again after 2015 and interact with the people of Canada.
Prime Minister Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Mexican President Claudia Schiffer Pardo, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung at the summit. After this, Prime Minister Modi left for Croatia.
