(A ‘dunki agent’ is a person who helps migrants cross borders illegally without proper documents to enter another country.)
New Delhi – The Supreme Court recently rejected the anticipatory bail plea of a dunki agent’ who illegally sent people abroad. A division bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan of the Supreme Court refused to grant anticipatory bail, saying that ‘dunki agents’ tarnish the image of the Indian passport.
1.A victim from Haryana had filed a case in the Supreme Court. In this, the victim has said that the accused (dunki agent) sent him to Dubai in September 2024, after which he was taken to Mexico by crossing the jungles of Panama through several countries. On February 1, 2025, he was taken into the US border; but the police arrested him there. Later, on February 16, he was sent to India from the US. In all this, the accused took ₹22 lakh from the victim’s family. (Running illegally to countries like the US and Britain through dangerous routes is called dunki route’.)
2.After the case was registered, the accused (the dunki agent) filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court for bail. The High Court, while rejecting his anticipatory bail application, said that the petitioner (the dunki agent) has a criminal history; as he is involved in another similar case. In such a situation, prima facie, the case is of a fraud.
