(G7 refers to the group of 7 developed countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States)
Ottawa (Canada) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Canada on June 16th to attend the G7 summit, where he was met with both opposition and support from groups gathered near the venue. Khalistani separatist groups staged a protest, waving Khalistani flags and raising provocative slogans such as “Divide India.” Protesters carried posters depicting Prime Minister Modi in handcuffs and behind bars, accusing him of involvement in the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in Canada in 2023.
In contrast, a large gathering of Indian diaspora members held a counter-demonstration, expressing strong support for Prime Minister Modi and waving Indian national flags. The Prime Minister is on a 2-day official visit, from June 16th to 17th , to participate in deliberations with global leaders at the G7 summit.
Editorial PerspectiveIn response to this reprehensible act by Khalistani elements, India, along with its G7 allies such as France, Italy, Japan, and the United States, should push for a formal resolution condemning Canada’s failure to curb extremist activities on its soil. Such a resolution should be tabled at the G7 summit itself, reflecting collective concern over the misuse of democratic freedoms to promote separatism and incite hostility against a sovereign nation. |
