The US adds salt to India’s wounds

New Delhi – It has come to light that Pakistan’s Army Chief Syed Asim Munir has been invited as the chief guest for the 250th ‘Army Day’ event to be held in the US capital Washington DC on June 14th. Pakistani officials informed that Munir will reach the US for the event on June 13th itself at the invitation of the US. US Army General Michael Kurilla has clarified that ‘it is not a binary choice for the US where having relations with India means excluding Pakistan’. He also called Pakistan a ‘phenomenal counter- terrorism partner’.
After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, while India is sending delegations around the world to expose Pakistan, this action by the US is like rubbing salt on India’s wounds.

Criticizing the Union Government in this matter, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “This is the man who spoke in such incendiary and provocative language just before the Pahalgam attack. What is the US really up to ? Is this not a diplomatic setback to India ?”

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has warned of protests during Munir’s visit to the US. The party’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Sajjad Burki has called for protests outside the Pakistan Embassy in Washington. He wrote on the X, “Let the White House know that any deal with this usurper is not acceptable to the people of Pakistan.”
The USA’s strategy behind inviting Munir
1. There is a talk that China may be the reason behind US inviting Munir. Pakistan and China have come closer in recent times. The US may be trying to reduce China’s influence by including Munir in the event.
2. Pakistan has reserves of lithium, copper, gold and rare earth minerals; but Pakistan lacks the necessary technology and funds. In such a situation, the US may have an opportunity to invest in Pakistan.
3. The third reason is related to Iran. Iran is USA’s enemy. US needs Pakistan to control it. It is said that the US can keep an eye on Iran by using Pakistani soil.
