The Pakistan army has long identified itself with Islamic values and operates under the motto ‘Iman, Taqwa, Jihad fi Sabilillah’ (faith, piety, struggle in the name of God). The statement from the DG-ISPR reiterates the military’s stance on religion being central to its functioning.

In the same press interaction, Lt Gen Sharif defended the name of a recent military operation, ‘Bunyanum Marsoos,’ which means “a steel wall.” He said those who fight for Allah are like a “steel wall,” indicating the symbolic meaning behind the operation’s name.
