Supreme Court dismisses Sultana Begum’s petition seeking Red Fort claiming that she is a descendant of the Mughals
New Delhi – Sultana Begum, the alleged widow of great grandson of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last ruler of the Mughal Empire, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking control of the Red Fort. ‘’Why only red fort ? Why not Fatehpur Sikri and Taj Mahal ? Why were those dropped ?” it asked, adding that the petition was frivolous.
Sultana Begum first filed such a petition in the High Court in 2021, which was dismissed by the High Court on the grounds of a delay of more than 164 years in filing the petition.
