Trump Halts ₹19,000 Crore Funding to United Nations

New York – US President Donald Trump has withheld ₹19,000 crore (approx. $2.3 billion) in funding to the United Nations. Due to this, the UN is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy.

1. As a result of the financial crisis, the United Nations is planning to lay off 3,000 employees across various departments.

2. The total UN budget for the year 2025 is ₹32,000 crore (approx. $3.9 billion). To address the crisis, the UN has already planned a 17% budget cut.

3. China contributes 20% to the UN budget.

4. Contributions to the UN are determined based on the financial capacity of member countries.

5. In 2024, 41 countries had outstanding dues amounting to ₹7,000 crore (approx. $860 million), including the US, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, and others.
