Allegation of promoting the pro-monarchy movement

False reporting about Nepal: Ban Indian news channels – Nepal Press Council

Kathmandu – Alleging false reporting about Nepal, the Nepal Press Council has recommended a ban on the broadcast of Indian news channels. Alongside this, it has also instructed that the accreditation cards issued to Indian media representatives working in Nepal be immediately revoked.

Channels included in the recommendation for ban are Aaj Tak, ABP News, Zee News, News18, TV9, NDTV, and Republic Bharat, stated Balakrishna Basnet, Chairman of Nepal Press Council.

The Nepal Press Council has issued a directive letter to the Information Department under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, instructing it to ban the broadcast of all major Indian news channels.

These media outlets are accused of running news against Nepal’s democracy and republican Government, and of promoting the ongoing movement in support of monarchy.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Nepal — unable to digest truthful reporting about its internal affairs.
  • If a tiny nation like Nepal can recommend banning Indian news channels for allegedly reporting against its national interests, then why can’t India impose a ban on anti-India and anti-Hindu media like BBC, Al Jazeera, which broadcasts anti-India news round the clock ?
