Terrorism will exist until Islam exists : Taslima Nasreen, Bangladeshi Author

Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen

New Delhi – Renowned Bangladeshi author and human rights activist Taslima Nasreen made bold statements about Islamic extremism at a recent public event. She said, ‘While churches in Europe are being converted into museums, Muslim communities across the world continue to focus on building more mosques, contributing to the proliferation of jihadi ideology. There should be no madarasas. As long as Islam exists, terrorism will continue to exist. Muslim children should not read just one book, but all kinds of books’.

Taslima Nasrin further said :

1. Islam has not evolved in 1,400 years. As long as there is no reform or progress, Islam will continue to produce terrorists.

2. During the 2016 Dhaka attack, some Muslims were killed simply because they couldn’t recite the Qalma (Islamic declaration of faith). When faith is allowed to override logic and humanity, such atrocities occur.

3. I am a permanent resident of the United States and lived there for 10 years, but I always felt like an outsider. It was only after arriving in Kolkata that I felt at home. Even after being expelled from West Bengal, I found a second home in Delhi. This country (India) gave me a sense of belonging, something my own homeland could never offer.

4. Every civilised country should have a Uniform Civil Code, including India. I support it. Islamic clergy want to retain authority of the Quran, but authority should never be religious.

Editorial Perspective

Had such remarks been made by a Hindu, they likely would have been labelled as anti- Muslim, a troublemaker or against secularism. But here, a Muslim woman herself is making these remarks, while the so-called secularists remain silent.
