Bail granted to Bangladeshi Hindu leader Chinmay Das

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – The Bangladesh High Court granted bail to ISKCON leader Chinmay Krishna Das. Das was arrested on November 25, 2024, under the charge of sedition. India lodged a strong protest with Bangladesh over the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das.

Chinmay’s lawyer Prolad Deb Nath told Bangladeshi media ‘The Daily Star’ that the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has not stayed the High Court’s decision. Still, Chinmay Das is expected to be released after the High Court’s order.

Why was Chinmay Krishna Das arrested ?

Intelligence Branch of Dhaka Police arrested Chinmay Krishna Das, involved in many protests against atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, at Dhaka Airport on November 25. They arrested and registered a case against him for insulting the national flag of Bangladesh during a Hindu march. ISKCON and other pro-Hindu organisations held widespread protests against this. Das’ bail application was rejected several times.
