Assam MLA Aminul Islam arrested on charges of sedition

Backed Pakistan after Pahalgam attack

Guwahati (Assam) – Aminul Islam, an MLA from Assam’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has been arrested under charges of sedition for backing Pakistan. He was arrested from his residence in Nagaon district. Islam has been elected thrice from the Dhing constituency.

Following the terrorist attack at Pahalgam, he released a video supporting Pakistan, leading to his arrest.

Reacting to the MLA’s statement, the AIUDF clarified that the views expressed were his personal opinions and not those of the party. Party President Badruddin Ajmal called Islam’s statement “unfortunate”, stating that this is a time to stand with the Government. He further added that terrorists have no religion and are tarnishing the name of Islam.

Editorial Perspective

Such individuals must be tried immediately in a fast-track court, sentenced to death, and the sentence executed with equal promptness. Only then will traitors in the country be deterred.
