Violence erupts again in Bangladesh

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Violence has again struck Bangladesh. The protesters attacked and set houses of the leaders of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League Party on fire in more than 24 districts. Posters of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Awami League party, were destroyed. There are no signs of the end of the vandalism and arson that has been going on for the last two days in Bangladesh.

On 05.02.2025, the violence started at the time of an online address by Sheikh Hasina at night. Awami League leader Sheikh Salim’s house in Dhaka was set on fire.

The house of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi-32 was burnt down. The house of Awami League’s general secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader was attacked by the protesters and  a car parked near his house was also set on fire.

We are prepared to protect people and their properties – Interim Government

The interim Government led by Muhammad Yunus has strongly condemned the violence and incidents of arson happening in the country; claiming that the Government was ready to protect people and their properties.
