“My statement is an expression of my views on social issues and aligns with the principles of the Constitution” – Justice Yadav
Justice Shekhar Yadav, in a letter to Chief Justice Arun Bhansali of the Allahabad High Court, stated that his remarks have been distorted by certain individuals for personal gain. “My statement is an expression of my views on social issues and is in accordance with the principles of the Constitution. It does not incite hatred against any community,” he clarified. Justice Yadav further emphasized that members of the judiciary, like himself, cannot publicly defend their stance. He appealed for protection and support from senior members of the judiciary to safeguard his position and reputation amidst the controversy.
What did Justice Shekhar Yadav say ?
Justice Shekhar Yadav addressed the concerns regarding the Uniform Civil Code, saying, “There is a misconception in your (Muslim) minds that if a Uniform Civil Code comes into being, it will be anti-Sharia, anti-Islam, and anti-Quran. Be it your ‘Personal Law’ or our Hindu laws, or be it your Quran or our Bhagavad Gita, we have resolved many wrongs in our customs. So, what do you have against the implementation of this law?”
He further added, “You can marry 3 times while still being married to your 1st wife, and that too without her consent. This is unacceptable.”
