Asaram Bapu Granted Bail After 11 Years and 4 Months

He will reside at Jodhpur Ashram after release from prison

Jodhpur (Rajasthan) – Following the Rajasthan High Court’s approval of interim bail in a rape case, Asaram Bapu was released late on January 14. He has since taken residence at his ashram in Pal Gaon, Jodhpur. Devotees welcomed him with fireworks at the ashram. The bail is valid until March 31, after which he may have to return to prison.

Asaram Bapu faces allegations of rape in two separate cases filed in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and Jodhpur, Rajasthan, both resulting in life imprisonment sentences. On January 7, the Supreme Court granted bail in the Gujarat case, and on January 14, the Rajasthan High Court approved bail in the Jodhpur case. His release comes after serving 11 years, 4 months, and 12 days in prison. Previously, he was briefly allowed out for medical treatment.

The court has imposed three strict conditions for Asaram Bapu’s bail :

  • He is prohibited from meeting his followers in groups or addressing them collectively.
  • He cannot engage with the media or deliver public lectures.
  • He must always be accompanied by three security guards, whose expenses he must bear.
  • He is permitted to stay in any ashram across the country and seek medical treatment at hospitals or ashrams.
